Illinois Cannabis Sales up in April and Governor's Office Delays Recreational Dispensaries Licenses

Updated: May 19

Legal cannabis sales during April were $37.3 million, better than any month since January, the first month of recreational cannabis, which saw gross revenue at high as $39.2 million. March sales were $36 million and February sales were $35 million. These numbers are in spite of the fact that there is a shortage of cannabis to be sold, and Gov. Prtizker's stay at home order has negatively impacted nearly all Illinois businesses.

Also, the state delayed awarding licenses for 75 new dispensaries due to the pandemic. The licenses, originally set to be awarded May 1, will not be issued until Pritzker's disaster proclamations end, or if the state sets another date. About 50 dispensaries around IL sell recreational cannabis.
